Hackers Target Chief Justice’s WhatsApp & They Have Hacked
Former Chief Justice of Pakistan Umer Atta Bandial has disclosed that his WhatsApp account was compromised, with unauthorized access being used to attempt financial scams.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the attacker took control of the account and began sending messages to individuals in Justice Bandial’s contact list, requesting money. Upon discovering the breach, he promptly approached the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) to formally report the incident and seek immediate action.
Officials from the NCCIA confirmed that the case is under investigation and said specialized cybercrime units are working to trace the source of the intrusion. Authorities have also issued a public advisory urging people not to respond to or fulfill any monetary requests originating from the compromised account.
The incident underscores the rising number of cyberattacks targeting prominent public figures, reflecting broader concerns over digital security vulnerabilities. Cybersecurity specialists warn that criminals increasingly exploit hacked accounts to solicit money or extract sensitive information, often relying on trust associated with well-known identities.
Experts continue to emphasize the importance of enabling two-factor authentication, updating passwords regularly, and remaining vigilant when responding to online messages. Law enforcement agencies have advised citizens to verify any unexpected financial requests, even if they appear to come from familiar or trusted contacts, as compromised accounts are frequently used for fraud.
